Christmas BBQ and President's Cup A Success

Photos by Simon Gray, Andy and Garry get knocked out in the semi-final, which left the final between Arthur and Caroline

20 Mountain Archers shot a Short Course 90 arrow event on Sunday 4th December starting at 10am. Rounds ranged from the Newcastle, Geelong, to the Junior, Short and regular Canberra (FITA 900) Round. Members were then ranked from 1 to 20 with Sharon Grimston a clear number 1 scoring 886/900 in the Canberra Round. After a BBQ lunch we had a Matchplay shootoff for our President's Cup with archers handicapped by experience.

Matchplay was as follows:The 1st ranked archer versed the last ranked, 2nd versed 2nd to last and so on... The archers who have been at the club for a number of years subtracted the number of years they have been at the club from each 3 arrow end during the matchplay. Sighted compound/crossbow shot at bugs eyes 40cm face, recurve and experienced junior/intermediate barebow at 60cm, longbow/barebow at 80cm face and beginners at 120cm face. Finals rounds were 3 arrow ends comprising of only 2 ends (out of 60) all targets were moved to 20m. We had to speed things up due to the inclement weather.

Semi final round was Garry Sands vs Arthur Dungate and Caroline Hawkins vs Andrew Moyle. (Andrew was the only compound shooter left at this stage, he was shooting barebow). The final was between Arthur Dungate and Caroline Hawkins. Caroline shot a 24 her first end with Arthur struggling at 21. However Arthur tuned his concentration and shot a 10 and two nines for a 28, whilst Caroline shot a 25 for her final end. So we had a tie, with both archers at 49/60. It was resolved with a one arrow closest to the x shootoff! Both archers shot 8s with Arthur's arrow being about 1cm closer to the x.

So congratulations to Arthur Dungate who holds the Mountain Archers President's Cup for the year!

 2011 Lithgow Ironfest,(Steampunk) May 14-15.

Mountain Archers ran 2 days worth of Come 'N Try Archery Classes at the Lithgow Ironfest. Recently held on May 14th and 15th at Lithgow Showground.
Lithgow really came alive during this weekend with archery, horseback archery, jousting, quad bike jousting (the Knight Riders), The Battle of Lithgow - military reanactment, training for young knights, battling for old knights, bands, buskers, Lithgow Pipe Band, Ballroom Dancing, Belly Dancing, Choirs, Art and Craft, Public Executions and Blacksmithing Workshops.

It really is a great alternative to modern day amusement parks and commercial expos.

Our club members had a great time and helped over 489 archers of all ages to experience a Come 'N Try archery session. Thanks to all the organisers; Macgregor Ross, Boris et al, and all the sponsors; Delta Electricity etc, for another great festival.

Hope to see you there next year on April 21st and 22nd for APOCOLYPSE IRONFEST 2012.
